It’s a privilege to help individuals navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Clients value the fact that I respect them and want to understand them as people. They certainly know that I’ll always be a straight shooter.

Caroline Krauss (formerly Krauss-Browne) is a fierce advocate for individuals in all matrimonial and family law matters, from pre-nuptial agreements to custody trials. She often protects the interests of clients whose legal issues are complicated by their significant assets and heightened public profiles.

For more than 25 years, Caroline has focused exclusively on matrimonial and family law, earning widespread praise in the area, including designation as a Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. Appreciating the intimate relationship between lawyer and client in matrimonial and family law matters, she co-founded KSTM as a boutique firm from which to offer counsel that is both caring and candid. Her frequent work includes:

  • Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
  • Custody, parental access, and ancillary parenting issues, oftentimes working collaboratively with mental health professionals
  • Divorce negotiation and litigation
  • Equitable distribution, spousal and child support, and related ancillary issues

A trained mediator, Caroline seeks alternatives to disruptive litigation wherever possible, and regularly resolves marital disputes. When litigation is unavoidable, however, she provides aggressive advocacy in the courts. Among other successes, she secured a landmark decision in New York’s highest court that overturned longstanding prejudicial rules toward same-sex parents in child custody matters.

Caroline is recognized as a top-tier lawyer by Chambers High Net Worth for Family/Matrimonial Law in New York. Clients and peers describe Caroline as a great strategist who is “completely committed and devoted to her clients,” with one source noting that “she knows when the time is right to fight and when the time is right to resolve. But when the fight is chosen, she fights like a lion.”

Before launching KSTM, she co-chaired the matrimonial and family law practice at Blank Rome, which under her leadership operated the largest such practice group in the nation.

On a pro bono basis, Caroline serves as a mediator in the Neutral Evaluation Program operated by the Supreme Court, Civil Branch, New York County, New York. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an honor reserved for the top 1% of attorneys.
